2025 is expected to be an important year for the development of nutrition and health. Important global events will take place that provide an important opportunity to accelerate nutrition efforts. The Paris Summit on Global Nutrition (N4G), hosted by the Government of France from 27-28 March will build on the momentum from the successful 2021 Summit in Tokyo. The World Health Assembly in May will consider a possible extension of the World Nutrition Goals to 2030. The UN General Assembly in September will mark the final year of the Millennium Development Goals. United Nations Decade of Action on Nutrition (2016-2025). And the World Summit on Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) in November will provide an important platform for countries, donors, and civil society to agree on investment and coordination in nutrition. These events will shape the global nutrition agenda for 2025 and beyond.
The Paris N4G and SUN Global Gathering will strengthen the commitment of governments, civil society, humanitarian organizations, private sector, humanitarian organizations, and the UN to end malnutrition in all its forms. Most of these commitments will focus on accelerating efforts to achieve the WHA’s Global Nutrition Goals.
On 18-21 November, WHO, UNICEF and SUN will host a series of webinars to drive strong and impactful national action through:
- To highlight current progress, identify obstacles to achieving the World Nutrition Goals by 2025, and present a proposed extension of the WHA World Nutrition Goals to align with the 2030 agenda.
- It shows examples of best practices from countries to inspire others in their commitment journey.
- Focusing on the steps needed to improve nutrition.
- It describes key tools that countries can use to address key topics related to the Paris N4G region and the SUN Global Gathering in 2025.
Summary of the week
The week begins with a high-level conference focusing on the need to address malnutrition in all its forms, drawing attention to the coordination of World Food and the need for a holistic approach to food, health and t public safety. The following conferences will delve deeper into each of the nutrition goals, celebrating country successes and highlighting the actions needed by 2030. Speakers include United Nations officials, country representatives and civil society.
